When this quiz is worth taking

If you have ever compared savings rates and wondered what compounding really means, doubted whether keeping everything in a deposit account makes sense when prices are rising, or debated putting all your spare money into one stock, this quiz is for you. It tests conceptual understanding, not arithmetic. When you are unsure, choosing "I don't know" rather than guessing gives a truer picture of what you actually understand.

The first three items cover the concepts checked in financial literacy surveys worldwide: compound interest, inflation and diversification. The remaining seven cover applied ideas you meet in real contracts and products, including interest rates and bond prices, revolving credit, the time value of money, loan term versus total interest, guaranteed high-return pitches, the long-run effect of fund fees, and leverage. Soundary wrote every scenario and figure from scratch for a Korean savings, stock and loan context; the items are not a translation of any official survey.

What to do with your result

The three core concepts are scored 0-3; a full 3 means you have cleared the basic financial literacy benchmark used in international surveys, 2 is partial understanding with one concept to fill in, and 0-1 signals room to build. Applied knowledge is scored 0-7: 0-2 is the starting stage, 3-4 growing, 5-6 solid and 7 very high. Which items you missed matters more than the number itself; each missed topic is exactly the clause you should double-check in a contract or product sheet.

If your score is low, start with reputable free materials such as those from a national financial regulator or public financial education center, then retake the quiz a few months later. Because this is a knowledge quiz, remembering the items inflates scores, so a gap of three to six months shows real change best. Even with a high score, knowing and doing can differ; pairing this with the loss aversion scale or the investor bias check shows how knowledge holds up under emotion. The result is for reference only, is not investment advice, and any investment decision and its outcome remain your own responsibility.

How scores are interpreted

Sample questions

FAQ

How do I read my financial literacy score?

Results come in two parts. The three core concepts (compound interest, inflation, diversification) score 0-3: 3 passes the basic benchmark, 2 is partial understanding, 0-1 needs building. Applied knowledge scores 0-7: 0-2 starting stage, 3-4 growing, 5-6 solid, 7 very high. The most useful step is to look at the topics of the items you missed rather than the total.

Are these the same questions as official financial literacy surveys?

No. Soundary referenced the concept areas that international surveys commonly check (compound interest, inflation, diversification and so on), but wrote every scenario, figure and wording from scratch for a Korean context of deposits, stocks, loans and revolving credit. The items are not a translation of any official survey and the quiz is for reference only, pending psychometric validation.

My score is low. Where should I start?

Start with the concepts behind the items you missed. If you missed the core three, learn how compounding works, the difference between nominal interest and real purchasing power, and why diversification matters. If you missed applied items, review the things that appear in real contracts: how revolving interest accrues, loan term versus total interest, and the long-run effect of fund fees. Free materials from a financial regulator or public education center are a reliable starting point.

Does high financial literacy mean better investment returns?

Not necessarily. Knowing a concept and acting on it under pressure are different things, and more knowledge can sometimes breed overconfidence. Literacy helps you avoid traps and read how a product is structured, but it does not guarantee returns. This result is for reference only and is not investment advice; any investment decision and its outcome remain your own responsibility.
